Brazilian canine hepatozoonosis.
نویسنده
چکیده
The genus Hepatozoon includes hundreds of species that infect birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals, in all continents with tropical and subtropical climates. Two species have been described in domestic dogs: H. canis, reported in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and the United States; and H. americanum, which so far has only been diagnosed in the United States. In Brazil, the only species found infecting dogs is H. canis. The objective of this review was to detail some aspects of canine hepatozoonosis, caused by H. canis, and the main points of its biology, transmission, pathogenicity, symptoms, epidemiology and diagnostic methods, with emphasis on research developed in Brazil.

Hepatozoon (H.) americanum and H. canis are the etiological agents of canine hepatozoonosis, a disease that is found worldwide and is also prevalent in the southeastern United States. Current laboratory diagnosis of canine hepatozoonosis caused by H. americanum is usually dependent on visual identification of Hepatozoon "onion skin cysts" in muscle biopsies, an approach that requires invasive s...

OVERVIEW Hepatozoonosis of domestic cats has been reported in several countries, mainly as a subclinical infection. DISEASE AGENT Infection has been described mostly in areas where canine infection is present and, in recent years, Hepatozoon felis has been identified as a distinct species by molecular techniques. The vector for feline hepatozoonosis remains unknown and the pathogenesis has no...

Canine hepatozoonosis is a growing tick-borne disease in Punjab. Two canine hepatozoonosis cases, one clinical and one subclinical, in Punjab were analyzed by PCR targeting 18S rRNA gene (666 bp). After sequence analysis of the PCR products, both of them were found almost identical to each other and were closely related to the Hepatozoon canis strain found in Saint kitts and Nevis and Brazil wi...

Canine hepatozoonosis, caused by Hepatozoon canis, is transmitted by the ingestion of brown dog tick, Rhipicephalus sanguineus. In the present study R. sanguineus ticks (n=60) collected from dogs presented at Small Animal Clinics, Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, GADVASU, Ludhiana, Punjab, India were screened by PCR based assay for the detection of H. canis specific 18S ribosomal RNA gene ...
